Peer review means checking assignments results by a person according to the set criteria. It mostly concerns free-form essays or programming problems that cannot be checked automatically.
Two types of peer review
- Teacher peer review. The teacher grades each work and provides a comment;
- Cross review. The checking process is made by learners themselves according to the criteria set by their teacher. Usually, each work is checked by several learners (three by default). Checking is anonymous for the both participants.
Cross review (peer-review)
Cross review works as follows:
- A learner solves a problem (writes an essay) and saves it to the system;
- The learner sends their solution to peer review. It is possible to send only one solution, cancellation is unavailable! Learners should check that they sent the correct variant and whether the file (if attached) opens properly;
- Other learners check the solution according to the set criteria;
- The learner checks solutions of other three learners according to the set criteria;
- The learner is given a grade (equals the median value of the 3 reviews received).
Steps 3 and 4 are parallel, so the learner checks others’ works at the same time that their work is checked. Other steps go one after another, so, for instance, the learner cannot gain points before checking at least three others’ works.
The more answers the learner reviews, the sooner their answer will be reviewed.
